PATIENT INFORMATION

Welcome to Southeastern Dental Specialists!

We welcome you to our practice! We realize that you have many options for your specialty dental care, and we’re so glad you have chosen Southeastern Dental Specialists!  Please take a look at the information on this page and become familiar with our policies and information for new and existing patients!

First Visit

Most initial visits to Southeastern Dental Specialists will include a consultation and an overview of treatment options. Our dentists will go over your diagnosis with you and ask questions about your medical history. They will also explain your treatment if it requires an evaluation or second appointment.

To help our dentists and speed up the appointment process, we recommend bringing with you a referral slip, old x-rays if you have them, a list of current medications, and the identification and forms for any medical or dental insurance you may have.

All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If you have a medical condition you need to disclose with the dentist, please make our office aware. This includes conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, as well as the use of heart medication and anticoagulant therapy.

You may contact your previous dentist or physician to have them forward old medical records or x-rays to our office.

Anxiety and Sedation Alternatives

The American Dental Association estimates that 15% of all Americans avoid regular dental care due to anxiety and fear associated with dental treatments. Southeastern Dental Specialists offers conscious sedation dentistry for anxiety control or for patients who want a more relaxing dental visit.

We offer sedation services ranging from oral sedation to IV sedation for patients with special needs such as dental phobias, anxiety, fear of injections and patients with severe gag reflex. The method of sedation is tailored to the needs of the patient through a careful evaluation process.

For your convenience, treatment is often coordinated with multiple specialists in one visit.

Patient Insurance Information

Southeastern Dental’s Insurance Team undergoes various stages of training and takes great pride in providing the best possible support to our patients for all their insurance needs. There is an experienced Insurance Team Member at each location ready to assist with things such as providing estimates, filing claims and prior authorizations, obtaining pre-treatment estimates, submitting appeals when necessary, and any other insurance needs that may arise.

Please bring your dental and medical cards to your appointment.

While Southeastern Dental Specialists accepts and files all dental insurances, listed below are the dental insurances we are currently in network with:

● Dental Health Alliance (Aetna and Assurant/Sun Life Plans) ● BCBS GRID+ Plans (Including BCBS of NC and BCBS Federal)

● Cigna (some exclusions – check with carrier) ● Delta Dental Premier (General Dentists Only)

● Delta Dental PPO (Specialists Only) ● Department of Veteran Affairs (Veterans Choice Program)

● NC Medicaid and NC HealthChoice ● Medicare ● MetLife ● The Health Plan

● United HealthCare (some exclusions – check with carrier) ● United Concordia (including ADDP and Tricare Dental Program)

When scheduling an appointment, our staff will ask for your dental insurance information so benefits can be verified and a breakdown of benefits can be obtained from the carrier prior to your visit. We ask for all patients to bring their dental card with them to their appointment and to provide updated carrier information as necessary. Based on the breakdown of benefits obtained from the carrier, an estimate of insurance payment will be determined and the difference will be due from the patient at the time of services.

Due to our broad scope of dentistry, our team will file the patient’s medical insurance when applicable to maximize the use of all possible benefits in an effort to reduce the patient’s out of pocket expense. Our team has experience filing medical claims with carriers such as Tricare, BCBS, and Medicare, just to name a few.

In the event little or no insurance benefits are available for the necessary treatment, Southeastern Dental Specialists has several financing options available. For more info, see our Financial Policy info.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact one of our knowledgeable insurance team members for assistance.
